Yeti: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Bakelite (498)
Product Number: 002-660-0099
A piece well steeped in the American carver's aesthetic, this bent Apple is easily recognized as the work of Micah "Yeti" Cryder. The lithe shaping and compact form is a common staple of Cryder's, resulting here in a piece that's under five inches in length, weighing in it at under 35 grams. Supple of curvature and soft of line throughout, its underlying, classic Danish influence is readily apparent, the underside of the shank traveling smoothing into the lower bowl and sweeping upward to inform the bowl's plump disposition. The finish and use of materials, though, is a more modern approach and one that's quintessentially "Yeti" — the stummel adorned in a dark-stained, extra-craggy sandblast, the top of the chamber left uneven and organic with subtle plateau, while the shank end is smooth polished and contrast-stained, accenting the piece as a whole and transitioning into a stem of deep, indigo bakelite. Beautiful work from Micah and the perfect introduction to the talented artisan's work for a first time collector or an ever-worthy addition to any collection of Yeti pipes.-Truett Smith
