Yeti: Partially Sandblasted Tomato (511)

Product Number: 002-660-0108

It comes as no shock why Micah "Yeti" Cryder dubbed this Tomato a "Plateau Monster" — the entire rim slopes forward in a dramatic display of concave plateau, as if the Cookie Monster went on a diet, developed a love for tomatoes, and took a bite out of this briar block. Echoing the eccentric nature of the rim, the heel features a planed section, defined by an outlining ridge and shaped like a Hershey Kiss, smooth-polished to contrast the stummel's concise sandblast. Apart from these flourishes, the shape remains traditional in its plumpness and general form, fitting in well to Micah's love for compact pipes, though being straight does make this piece stand out within his portfolio. The finish has everything desired in a sandblast: The rippling ring grain covers all sides and echoes the concave orientation of the rim for stunning visual congruence, all brought out by a subtle, warm contrast stain. Lastly, the stem is worthy of note, testifying to Cryder's deft bit work, and while most saddle stems are rather straight from the saddle, this one shows an obvious taper toward the button, adding sleekness to the profile.
