Yeti: Smooth Horn with Bakelite (694) Tobacco Pipe

Micha "Yeti" Cryder is the man behind Yeti pipes, and he was first introduced to pipes and pipe making when he started smoking one as a senior in high school. His passion for the craft quickly grew, and he eventually quit his barista job and left university to pursue the craft full time. The American carver quickly grew a reputation for his stunning organic shapes, handsome finishes, and colorful palettes. All those features are present in this Horn shape, a design for which Cryder has developed a newfound love.

This piece possesses the sweeping, curvaceous form associated with the shape, but with added definition and structural soundness lent to it by the paneled facets across the flanks, underside, and top of the stummel. The pronounced lines draw attention to the shape's gentle curvature but divide into a stepped process, one that descends from the aft side of the bowl and into the flowing shank and stem. The half saddle stem mirrors the appearance of the bowl, the underside is consistent and continues the line of the shank, while the top of the stem echos the aft-side panels of the bowl. That attention to detail is what makes Cryder's pipes such a sight to behold. The stummel wears a stunning, contrast-stained smooth finish that brings vivid definition to the briar's natural grain orientation. An abundance of birdseye can be seen across the top and bottom of the oval shank, and plenty of handsome cross grain can be found across the stummel's flanks. The creamy stem of vintage Bakelite tops off the design, its color adding a dose of vibrancy to the overall composition.
