Adam Davidson: Smooth Pitcher with Bamboo Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-437-0082
Before finally settling on simply "Pitcher", we spent a good amount of time trying to come up with a more evocative name for this Adam Davidson design. Spilling Pitcher was one of the first, but rather contradicted the fact that this shape is also a sitter. Some manner of flower then we thought; Foxglove? Lily? But Lily is already taken as a shape-name, and a foxglove wasn't quite right. So it went on.
Well, we may have failed to come up with a more evocative title, but Adam certainly came up with with a design that's as evocative as they come. The forward leap of the lines of the bowl, the high stretch and lift of the counter-balancing bamboo and stem; together they make for a silhouette alone that's hard to forget. Throw in the display of birdseye that packs the rolling curve of the rim, and one very distinctive, specially selected piece of bamboo (don't ask how long Adam spent sealing each individual node on the full nine knuckles it bears — I believe he said there were over a hundred of them), and the result is an Adam Davidson design that's memorable even by Adam Davidson standards.
