Adam Davidson: Partially Sandblasted Bent Dublin with Horn
Product Number: 002-437-0125
Adam Davidson's style ranges from bold, muscular forms, imbued with a fusion of Danish and American Industrial influences, to more slender pieces, trim of shank and lithe of form. This bent Dublin falls within that latter category. It's one of the most overtly Danish-inspired renditions we've seen from Adam, the lines smooth and elegant with a supple roundness throughout. Said roundness is most apparent at the rim — a bulbous, inflated cap separated by a crisp ridgeline at the top of the bowl. It resembles the Mushroom design rendered by a variety of artisans, this specific piece most resembling those I've seen from Cornelius Mänz.
Davidson takes his own approach, though, imbuing the domed rim with a generous amount of asymmetry. The dividing ridgeline is canted downward toward the right when viewed from the smoker's perspective, drawing the right edge down the bowl's flank. Impressively, the rim's width remains consistent even with its tilted, off-set nature, maintaining the silhouette's circular form. Dressed in a subtly textured, Danish-style sandblast, the stummel is further separated from the rim, which is smooth polished and stained a deep, Bruyere red. The horn mount, then, provides a dose of cream to the color palette, the shank-end flaring suddenly to hint, again, at this piece's Danish inspiration. It's paired with one of Adam's expertly crafted stems, ending in a comfortable, funneled bit. Stunning work and quite the creative take on the form.-Truett Smith
