Adam Davidson: Sandblasted Disk

Product Number: 002-437-0137

The Disk is a shape that Adam himself has expressed a fondness for making, yet it's been several years since we've received one from the American artisan. Such a hiatus makes this piece a welcome sight, and it maintains Adam's convention for consistently tweaking and experimenting with the design — altering proportions, incorporating panels, and other such elements of form and line. This rendition remains fairly reserved (if a piece with wide-set, ridge-lined flanks could be considered reserved). The bowl is notably forward-canted, continuing the dynamism of the flowing shank and stem. Said shank tapers toward the transition, lending the bowl a more poised, perched disposition, and the shank face is softly domed, echoing the expansion ring of the stem base. What sets this Disk rendition apart though is the shank's subtle orientation: Oval of cross section, it's tilted slightly to the side, offset in relation to the horizontal axis for a playful dose of accenting asymmetry. It's all dressed in a dark, red wine stain, highlighting a low-depth sandblast that reveals well-oriented grain, especially on such a non-traditional shape.
