Adam Davidson: Smooth Fugu Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-437-0160
While Adam Davidson draws inspiration from both Danish and Japanese artisans, his keen eye for supple curves and precise dimensions make his work distinctly his own. He crafts pipes with an emphasis placed on functionality and engineering, but one would be hard-pressed to find a Davidson piece that doesn't also look exceptional. This Blowfish is a excellent example of his style, possessing as it does the elegant line work and the attention to detail that makes all of Davidson's work so revered.
The "Fugu" style of Blowfish is typically defined by paneled bowl bifurcated by a band of cross grain, and that's exactly what Davidson has produced here. The overall dimensions on display are quite compact, measuring less than five inches in total length, and the shape is appropriately lightweight. The paneled flanks of the bowl and the accompanying wrapping ridgelines lend the shape an asymmetrical appearance that's further accentuated by the curling shank's lopsided angle. Even with its asymmetrical shaping, this piece maintains a gentle curvature, with a consistent undercurve that crests like a wave at the shank end. A warm, traditional smooth finish dresses the stummel and accentuates the stunning birdseye on either flank of the bowl as well as the cross grain along the underside. Handsome and stylish, this piece has plenty admirable characteristics, and it will surely become a favorite among any collector's rotation.
