J. Alan: Partially Sandblasted Modern Horn (1127) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-376-0194

The last Horn we saw from J. Alan was very much going for a wave aesthetic, with a long, easy flow of stem, shank, and transition, topped off by a rim that rolled down towards the front and flicked up lightly at the rear edge. In this most recent iteration of the Horn shape, Jeff has kept things much the same in the main body of the briar (and the vulcanite), but shifted the style sharply with a new type of rim. The most obvious aspect is the introduction of an unusual use of a dual finish, sandblasted across the inner rim (a reversal of the common everywhere theme of a sandblasted briar with a polished rim). Beyond that, though, is the smart shape of the rim itself, with a long crescent-like bevel (not quite a crescent, since it does still meet in a slender ribbon up front) swinging around to produce a sleek, slight cant-upon-cant atop the already forward bowl.
