J. Alan: Sandblasted Bent Brandy with Bamboo (1292) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-376-0226
One of Jeff's lighter and leaner compositions here, as well as one of his most obviously Danish influenced designs, this handsome Brandy features a plump, low-waisted bowl and an abbreviated and slender transition and shank, paired to a lengthy three-knuckle stretch of dark bamboo. The slightly high-set orientation of the transition, the subtle bend to the mouthpiece, and the careful balance of the knuckles' rhythm where they meet up with shank and stem are all classic Danish cues — nodding back to some of Sixten's more organic bamboo designs. In finish, however, Jeff's modernized things a bit, executing the bowl in a very craggy, almost gnarly style of sandblast with a bold, smoky contrast stain that not only works wonders in bringing out the block's gorgeous ring and flame grain patterns, but also matches the dark shade of the bamboo beautifully. Excellent piece from Jeff here.
