J. Alan: Partially Sandblasted Fugu (1404)

Product Number: 002-376-0249

Not many carvers can successfully render a two-finish pipe, but Jeff Gracik here demonstrates his sophisticated craftsmanship with deft assurance and winning results. The blasted side offers both horizontal grain and birdseye, separated by a crisp ridge bifurcating the underside. The smooth sections feature a Disneyland of birdsye, save for the end of the shank, which offers horizontal grain. The light color of the pipe demonstrates its flawlessness, and promises to darken with the age and venerable use any owner will undoubtedly expect of it. With a decorative expansion ring on the stem, stepping down to a flat, saddle stem, comfort and balance should be extraordinary. Of a good size that fills the hand, but not too much, this piece is a wonder of style and execution.
