J. Alan: Sandblasted Strawberry with Bakelite (1482) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-376-0273
We've seen a handful of Strawberry shapes from Jeff Gracik, each quite unique in its own right. This one continues in that tradition, maintaining the basics of the shape — a plump, high-set waistline, an easy taper to the transition — while also giving it a bit more of a sleek, streamlined form. The cinch-and-flare of its shank, in particular, sets off a feeling of forward momentum, reinforced by the lifting of the heel at the fore, and giving the impression of a piece that could have been plucked straight from the Danish school. The American influences are easy to spot, however, from Jeff's precise sandblast, to the use of brightly colored Bakelite for the stem, ensuring this is a peice that cannot be mistaken for any other carver.
