J. Alan: Partially Sandblasted Pot with Bamboo (1521)
Product Number: 002-376-0284
When many pipe smokers consider the Pot shape, the image of a staunch, resolute smoker likely comes to mind, as wide-chambered and squarely-proportioned as can be. This composition from Jeff Gracik of J. Alan pipes is most definitely not that. A lithe, practically featherweight briar, this sprightly Pot shape maintains an affable, eager disposition, juxtaposing a firm-lined bowl with a trio of bamboo knuckles at the honey-blonde shank extension.
Jeff opted for a warm-stained sandblast for the bowl, pairing the treatment to a smooth polish at the rim, highlighting a kiss of cross grain. Handsome whorls of blasted birdseye lead gracefully to the lighter, knuckle-adorned stuff, and Jeff even lent the stem a diagonally-oriented base, offering a sense of completion to the organic extension, but doing so in neat, modernist way.
