J. Alan: Sandblasted Coronado with Ivorite (1525)
Product Number: 002-376-0288
The Coronado is one of Jeff Gracik's signature shapes and perfectly demonstrates his diverse approach to pipemaking. J. Alan pipes consistently showcase the American carver's broad stylistic range, containing a portfolio that's brimming with organically inspired designs and more traditional forms like this Coronado. It's essentially a Lumberman at heart, with Jeff softening the shape by looking to the Danish approach for inspiration. The heel's subtle lift, the smooth transition, and the saddle stem's elegant, barely perceptible bend work in tandem to convert the typically reserved Lumberman shape into a fluid design that's impressively graceful and dynamic. Gracik has then finished the stummel in a crisp sandblast, with only a trim ivorite accent band interrupting the composition's all-black color palette to create a refined, dress pipe-like aesthetic.- Jeffery Sitts
