J. Alan: Smooth Billiard with Bamboo (1643) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-376-0316
While Jeff Gracik's innovative complexity of design garners considerable attention in the pipe world, his traditional renditions are also admired for their modern, stylistic modifications and subdued elegance. This refined Billiard reflects Jeff's respect for the Danish tradition of pipe making while retaining his own distinct style. It's a relatively small pipe, not quite five inches in length, but its bowl is full sized for more than adequate smoking time. That bowl maintains visual precedence with a sturdy heel, proportionally wide girth, and subtle taper to the rim, which is softly inflated with gentle curvature. The stain is very light, illuminating the cross-grain orientation of the bowl with a contrast stain that differentiates the horizontal tendrils and rich birdseye for limitless visual gratification. The shank is quite thin and joined to a pale, two-knuckle length of bamboo, followed by an offset saddle mouthpiece, resulting in a slender and lithe impression and contributing to the light weight of this Billiard, which reflects such elevated design and execution as to satisfy the most fastidious of collectors.- Chuck Stanion
