J. Alan: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Horn (1676)
Product Number: 002-376-0334
With concentric growth rings stacked on the bowl and vertical grain all around, this bent Apple from Jeff Gracik reflects substantial Danish influence, with its graceful curves and soft lines, as well as a North American aesthetic in its proportions. The rim here is sandblasted in concert with the flanks, and is scalloped along the longitudinal axis, providing a visual impression of reduced width and enhanced length despite the full-bodied muscularity of the bowl, especially when held. The horn ferrule is an elegant separation for the stem and stummel, adding cream and brown colors to the palette. With a meaty shank and wide bowl, it fits neatly in the hand with sure balance and tactile interest, with the visual weight thrown forward to the bowl by virtue of an understated saddle stem. Jeff is among the top carvers in the world, and it's pretty easy to see why.
