J. Alan: Sandblasted Acorn with Briar (2046) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-376-0406

Crafted by Jeff Gracik in San Diego, California, J. Alan pipes are among the most highly regarded artisan pipes in the United States and the world at large. His shaping style highlights the supple curves of the Danish school while staying true to the evocative and sometimes sculptural designs of the American revival. This Acorn is an excellent piece from Gracik, displaying influence from the Danish and Japanese pipe making traditions.

This Acorn rendition combines a Danish sense of proportion with an attention to organicism often seen in Japanese pipe making. At the fore, a pert, rotund bowl rests atop a spurred heel, with organically flared walls culminating a rounded, chubby rim. Out back, a defined transition gives way to a lengthy round shank that expands to a broad junction, accented with a slim band of briar where it meets a comfortably bent saddle stem of black vulcanite. Dressed in a rugged, earthy sandblast, the walnut-hued stummel boasts impressive ring grain around the middle of the bowl, creating a wealth of visual, as well as tactile, interest.
