Alexander Hasty: Sandblasted Billiard with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-876-0018

Lightweight, stoutly muscular, and elegantly refined are just a few ways to describe this Billiard from American carver Alexander Hasty. Hasty possesses a clear affinity for the Danish school of shaping, showcasing a penchant for soft features and flowing line work, but his Billiard shapes are slightly more structural, imbued with a stolidness often seen in American pipe making. That remains true for this interpretation, which tapers gradually from its broad, subtly pronounced heel to the taunt rim. The shank extends from the low-slung transition, balancing proportionally with the tall bowl, before giving way to a saddle stem of jet-black vulcanite. The shank-and-stem arrangement keeps the overall design tidy and streamlined, while the trim boxwood accent at the junction provides a light note to the dark, shadowy profile the stummel and shank cast. The stummel wears a low-profile, ruby-tinged sandblast that accentuates the natural grain orientation of the briar, with the rim left smooth for a touch of textural and visual contrast. Compact in terms of length, coming in a bit under five inches from end to end, this piece is perfect for on-the-go smoking, as it is easily portable and lightweight enough to be clenched between the teeth.
