Alexander Hasty: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Ivorite Tobacco Pipe

Alexander Hasty's shaping style is fairly distinct, combining elements of the Danish and American schools, all to great effect, with the end result being compact forms that pack a lot of style and substance into a petite, pocketable package. This bent Apple is no exception. For all its curves and fluidity, it comes in at less than five inches long, weighs under 40 grams, and slips extremely comfortably into the hand. Hasty has made a subdued pipe here, with a short saddle stem that showcases only the faintest of curves and a shank that mirrors this curve, with the junction marked by a domed fitment of Ivorite, its paleness starkly contrasting the jet-black hues of the stem and the sandblasted stummel.

The transition showcases a slight hint of cheeking about it, blooming forth into a forward-urging bowl that is borne upward on a lifted heel which thrusts the fore of the rim into prominence, giving the entire front portion a Scoop-like demeanor. The sides of the bowl here are flared out into a low-set waistline that aids the fingers in curling around it, as well as imbuing it with a supple softness which furthers the aforementioned Danish styling — something which the rather stripped down, functionalist look of this piece accentuates as well.
