Ardor: Mercurio Fantasy Bent Apple
Product Number: 002-004-2715
This Ardor bent Apple is one of the more reserved, modestly sized briars I've seen from the Roveras. It's a rather gestural rendition, the bowl urging forward from out of the sinuously bent shank-and-stem combination. There's a fair bit of depth and breadth lent to the chamber while the slightly elongated, curling transition offers ample room for the thumb to rest comfortably. The plump bowl is remarkably pleasing in hand and features a handsome array of flame grain around its flanks, made even more striking by the honey-blonde contrast stain. The Italian workshop's Fantasy series often features colorful, flashy accents, however, this piece is presented in a slightly more reserved form compared to other examples we've seen in the past. Bright metal adorns the stem base, while the acrylic stem and accent along the shank-end offers complementary coloration to the stummel's warm tones while the acrylic's dark, swirling streaks offers some contrast without becoming ostentatious.- Jeffery Sitts
