Ashton: Sovereign Acorn with Silver (XX)

Product Number: 002-006-2807

The Acorn isn't a shape most readily associated with the English school, and yet this rendition from Ashton is one of my favorites from the English workshop. It demonstrates Ashton's versatility when it comes to shaping and proportions. The bowl exhibits a strong degree of forward cant, its heel drooping past the trim, abbreviated shank and terminates at the flattened base. The light, natural stain of the Sovereign finish does a magnificent job of showcasing the briar's beautiful grain patterns as streaks of windswept grain can be seen cascading down the bowl's flanks. It's all topped off with a gorgeous band of sterling silver that's accented by a pair of crisp beadlines, adding a skillful touch to an already remarkable piece.
