Ashton: Pebble Grain Calabash with Silver (XXX)

Calabash renditions typically fall on the larger end of the size spectrum, and based on some of the pieces I've seen from Ashton, I expected this Calabash to be one such large pipe. That's not the case here though. While it's not what I would call a pocket pipe, the proportions are quite compact, making for quite a lightweight piece that's begging to be a jaw-hanger. The deep bend and sinuous profile are playfully eye-catching, drawing focus to the curvaceous form and adding comfortable balance to the deep-chambered bowl when clenched. It's all dressed in the workshop's craggy, dark-stained Pebble Grain sandblast and elegantly accented by Jimmy Craig's reputable silverwork.
