Ashton: Old Church Bulldog (ELX) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-006-3373
As a part of Ashton's ELX line, this straight Bulldog is among Jimmy Craig's largest work, with only those pipes belonging to the Magnum series being bigger. At over seven and a half inches long, this piece strikes an imposing profile, though its squat build keeps the entire thing feeling extremely aerodynamic, especially considering its consistent taper through the shank and stem. Said stem is quite lengthy, and the ridgelines that run through it and the shank are crisp, sharp, and very well-realized. Additionally, on the flanks, these ridges rise up through the middle of the bowl before angling downward into the heel, further sharpening it as it meets the underside's own ridge. A more mid-set waistline possesses the bowl, marked by a pair of thin beadlines that wrap around it, marking the taper to the rim which, at the fore, is more arced than sloped. Ashton's Old Church tanblast dresses the briar here, revealing some handsome grain, and the cumberland stem's hues contrast it wonderfully.
