This Apple from Ashton features a plump, rounded bowl that stands proudly at the fore of an arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement. The bowl's gentle contours conform to the hand quite naturally, and the transition leaves plenty of space to drape a digit. The overall form here is quite well-balanced, the bowl, shank, and stem all harmoniously aligned with one another. The golden Old Church sandblast dresses the stummel and highlights a tantalizing mixture of birdseye and growth rings about the bowl. It's all topped by a cumberland mouthpiece that adds a touch of contrasting color to the pipe's palette.
