Ashton: Ebony Bent Brandy with Silver (XXX) (with Case) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-006-3704
Ashton has crafted a number of bent Brandy renditions in their time, many of which we've seen here, though this particular outline is one we've very seldom encountered from the English workshop. Compared to other iterations, the bowl here is significantly squatter, with a broad base that tapers gently to the rim, creating an almost Pot-like presence. The transition is wide, leaving plenty of room to drape a thumb, and gives way to a trim, ovoid shank paired to a demurely curved saddle stem of jet-black vulcanite. The outline is inherently muscular and rugged, though the Ebony finish tempers this, its serious black sandblast and stem given some elegant contrast via a thin ring of silver at the junction. This particular piece comes in a special collector's case that was handcrafted by Jimmy Craig himself, the head of the Ashton workshop.
