Ashton is known for their classic English shaping, handsome finishing work, and colorful vulcanite stems, all of which are present with this stylish Zulu. Typically, the Zulu shape is presented in bent form, but here it takes on an arrow-straight demeanor. The bowl boasts a distinctive flare and a subtle forward cant, and it rises at the fore of a slender oval shank and a tapered stem of red and olive brindled vulcanite. The shank-and-stem arrangement's reduced diameter draws attention to the bowl's visual presence and its active posture. It's dressed in the warm tones of the Old Church sandblast, which unveils fields of birdseye across the flanks of the bowl, providing a wealth of visual and tactile detail.
