Ashton: Pebble Cut Rhodesian with Silver (XXX) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-006-3992

William "Bill" Ashton Taylor began working for Dunhill in 1959 at 15 years old, manning one of the legendary English marque's lathes after a lengthy apprenticeship. During his time at the White Spot, Bill absorbed all the secrets of the craft he could from their experienced carvers, coming into his own as a carver and marking the start of a lengthy career. After feeling the need to start his own company, Bill founded Ashton pipes in 1983, going into business for himself and holding his work to extremely strict standards of quality that have earned the Ashton name an excellent reputation. William passed away in 2009, entrusting Ashton's production to Jimmy Craig, his protege, who has maintained the stringent standards of his predecessor, creating pieces with timeless appeal and classic charm. This Rhodesian is a straight and sleek example of the classic shape, its shank and stem comprising a slender taper through to the button. The shank and stem here do well to balance the bowl's visual weight thanks to their comparatively more gracile build, and the stem's vibrant bridled vulcanite adds rich contrast to the composition alongside a broad silver junction band. The bowl flares out toward a mid-set waist marked with a single ridgeline, followed by a swift taper toward a flat rim, its entire build possessed of a broad, muscular character. Dressed in one of Ashton's rarest finishes, this pipe features the craggy rustication of the Pebble Cut series, its dark stain keeping the look of the stummel rugged and serious.
