Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Poker
Product Number: 002-499-0223
Chris Askwith is no stranger to the Poker shape, having produced a variety of renditions: those with steep cants, others with more perpendicular profiles, and still others with non-traditional, paneled bowls. This specific one falls squarely in the middle. Featuring the classic, cylindrical bowl but with a slanted heel, lifting the stem and shank when seated, this piece was fashioned from morta — a medium with which Askwith has become well associated — and is impressively lightweight, especially when considering the bowl is over 2.5 inches tall. As expected, said bowl boasts a deep, slender chamber and is topped with an inflated rim, lending a gentle aesthetic to the otherwise crisp and rigid motif. Finally, Chris has paired the jet-black stummel to a deep brown, cumberland stem, making for a subtle but diverse color palette and matching the striated textures of both materials.-Truett Smith
