Askwith: Rusticated Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-499-0261
In the past, the bent Dublins we've received from Chris Askwith have been markedly sinuous and soft-lined, flowing through the heel and transition in almost Zulu-like fashion. This rendition, however, while still gracefully bent, offers a much firmer, more stolid presence. Much of this is due to the English carver's incorporation of a rounded ridgeline about the heel, affording the bowl a solid base above which it flares tall and boldly. A slightly stretched transition provides ample room for a thumb rest, and the textured rustication is a delight in the palm. For a sleek accent, Chris has chamfered the rim and kept it smooth and light-stained, kissed subtly at the edges with hints of rustication, and has deviated somewhat from his conventionally bright-hued stems for one of warm, striated cumberland. A classically English piece for lovers of traditional shape chart standards.-Truett Smith
