Askwith: Rusticated Acorn with Silver

A less-often seen shape from Chris Askwith, this Acorn still caters to the carver's traditional English style — the bowl being quite Apple-like in regards to plumpness, as opposed to the high-waisted, tapering renditions of, say, the Danish school. Here, the bulbous form is fitted to a lithely bent shank and stem combination, softening the stummel's mass and keeping the profile graceful and fluid yet still boldly muscular. It's a more reserved take from Chris, the English carver having opted for a classic color palette in place of his more modern, colorful approaches. Dressed in a rugged rustication, the stimulating texture is paired to a jet-black stem and refined by a crisp band of sterling silver.
