Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Saucer Tobacco Pipe

The last time we saw Chris Askwith carve the Saucer shape, the English carver presented a Rhodesian-like rendition fashioned from morta. This one here features that same, dense material but is like a Bulldog in its diamond shank. At under five inches in length, it's a lightweight nosewarmer, with the bowl heavily canted to keep the smoke at a comfortable distance. Said bowl combines the Bulldog's harsh tapers above and below a beadline with the Saucer's extra-broad waistline. Unlike the previous example, this one displays more muscularity in its shank, while the color palette remains consistent with Askwith's often extroverted style — a polyester stem of ebony-and-ivory pinstripes pairs well with the sandblasted morta of the stummel, echoing the materials unique grain pattern and making for a classy presentation all around.
