Askwith: Rusticated Bent Apple with Silver
Product Number: 002-499-0288
The profile and gesture of this bent Apple from Chris Askwith resembles that of an Author but without the typically robust transition and shank. Instead, the English artisan has focused the visual weight on the hearty bowl, further emphasized by the comparatively trimmer transition, shank, and stem. As such, this piece fills the palm substantial, conforming well to wrapped fingers for a comforting in hand feel, and such shaping is perfect for the rusticated finish, which while not very deep is exceptionally crisp. The color palette employed does well to combine Askwith's extroverted style with classic English aesthetics — the crimson stain of the stummel and use of sterling silver calling to mind Dunhill's Ruby Bark, with the swirling red tones of one Chris's signature polyester stem's continuing the vibrant motif.-Truett Smith
