Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Rhodesian

Product Number: 002-499-0307

Few other carvers work as often with morta as Chris Askwith does. Consequently, he boasts some of the most impressive designs available in the alternative medium, his creative and whimsical style always inherent in each piece. Here we have a tall bowled Rhodesian rendered from the dense material and deftly sandblasted. Unlike the English carver's oft-seen, compact, nosewarmer pieces, this offering doesn't fall under the "pocket pipe" category due to its standard length and hearty bowl, flaunting a massive chamber therein. Uniquely, Chris has etched the shape's definitive beadline quite high on the bowl, drawing focus the the bowl's dramatic flare and combining with the rim for a Calabash-like design. Paired to a contrasting stem of lavender-hued polyester, the palette bespeaks Askwith's modernist color conventions.
