Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Bent Pot
Product Number: 002-499-0318
Clearly inspired by Castello's "55" shape, Chris Askwith has fashioned this bent Pot. Like the Italian workshop's signature design, this piece from the English artisan displays a consistent downward arc through the shank and stem, informing the dramatically protruding heel that so characterizes the iconic shape. Despite a strong degree of muscularity and robust shaping, the forward momentum of the profile adds dynamism and slight sleekness to the form. The stummel has been fashioned from dense morta and sandblasted to showcase the medium's distinctive grain patters, while thick, insulating walls protect the chamber. Chris often works with morta, making this an excellent example of his stylistic conventions, as is the polyester stem — adding deep, indigo hues for subtle color contrast and a more modern palette.-Truett Smith
