The Tomato shape isn't one seen from Chris Askwith's portfolio very often, making this intriguing interpretation a delightful surprise. Crafted from finely-grained, jet-black morta, a lightweight material frequently used by the English carver, this piece boasts a robust, forward-leaning bowl with a bit more robustness lent the shank and stem than one finds in his pencil-thin silhouettes. Dressed in a dark sandblast, the all-black stummel pairs brilliantly with the mesmerizing black and white striations of the tapered, polyester mouthpiece.
