Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Cutty Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-499-0330
The Old World Cutty, a shape historically fashioned from clay before the use of briar, is brought to the modern stage by Chris Askwith, showcasing his penchant for taking vintage shapes and reinventing them to match his "classics for extroverts" aesthetic. Shape-wise, Chris has followed the traditional model closely, with a rounded, Egg-like bowl bearing a strong forward cant above a demonstrative heel spur, followed by a lean, rounded shank and a tapered stem. The extroverted style, however, isn't via a vivid color palette, as is often the case in Askwith's work. Instead, the English carver adds individuality through the material used — the traditional shape is fashioned from dense morta, with subtle color contrast offered by the deep, grape hue of the polyester stem. If you're looking for a classic shape that'll stand out in a crowd (or on your pipe rack), this Askwith is certainly one to consider.
