Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Bent Pot
Product Number: 002-499-0338
This bent Pot interpretation from Chris Askwith immediately calls to mind Castello's iconic "55" design. While Chris is well-known for his stylized re-imaginings of English shape chart standards, he certainly isn't a carver that shies away from tackling other classic designs either. However, what truly sets the English carver's work apart from his contemporaries is his extensive use of alternative materials, polyester stems, and vibrant color palettes. All of which can be found on this bold bent Pot rendition with its pronounced, jutting heel, capacious chamber, and incredibly stout proportions.
While the bowl's quite muscular, it benefits from being fashioned from morta, a type of semi-petrified oak known for its light weight and fascinating grain patterns that can be unveiled through sandblasting. Here the burly bowl displays endless tight striations of grain across its surface, offering plenty of crisp texture to wrap your fingers around. The stummel's jet-black color palette pairs brilliantly with the swirling black and magenta hues of the tapered, polyester mouthpiece. If you love classic shapes but desire a pipe that will stand out no matter where you take it, this Askwith is an ideal choice.- Jeffery Sitts
