Askwith: Sandblasted Billiard with Horn
Product Number: 002-499-0349
This Billiard is a relatively reserved and understated interpretation from Chris Askwith, dramatically departing from the English carver's penchant for vivid color palettes and alternative mediums. Measuring just over five-and-a half inches in length, it's a conveniently sized rendition and features well-balanced proportions throughout. The sandblasted finish on this piece is particularly enticing, with undulating waves of grain creeping up the bowl's flanks toward the gently rounded rim. A smooth band of briar along the shank end provides modest textural contrast while a pale horn accent band adorns the stem base, its creamy hues simultaneously contrasting and complementing the rest of the piece's extra-dark color palette. The tapered, polyester stem is fittingly a jet-black hue, forgoing Askwith's penchant for vivid, eye-catching mouthpieces. If you're a fan of Chris Askwith's talented approach to shape-chart standards but prefer classic color palettes, this composition is more than worthy of consideration and would be an excellent addition to any collection of artisan pipes.- Jeffery Sitts
