Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Rhodesian Tobacco Pipe

Chris Askwith's portfolio is rife with morta pipe renditions, the lightweight bog material a favorite alternative material rivaling his briar pieces. This Rhodesian from the English carver is a fine example, and wears an ebony-hued sandblast that reveals the medium's unique grain patterns. Shape-wise, this Nosewarmer features a bowl that's stocky and Pot-like in breadth, with wrapping beadlines high-set on the bowl. Rather than angular, sloping lower flanks, Askwith has rounded the base before a seamless transition into the equally muscular, much abbreviated shank. Topped by a short, black saddle stem that complements the dark stummel, this pipe is further accentuated by a bright, rose-colored accent band along the shank end. Stocky, deep of chamber and substantial in hand, this Rhodesian is a wonderful addition from the multi-talented artisan.
