Askwith: Sandblasted Morta Poker Cavalier Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-499-0477

English artisan Chris Askwith began his pipe journey in 2006, when he first started smoking a pipe and realized that the tools he used as a silversmith could be used to repair pipes. In 2007, he met Paul Hubbart, the man behind Larryson pipes, who gave Askwith a chance to make some pipes from scratch. Askwith eventually invested in specialized tooling that allowed him to produce original pipes full-time, and since then, he's become a prominent figure in artisan pipe making.

Askwith is known for crafting modernized renditions of classic English shapes, and he continues that tradition with this distinctive Poker Cavalier. Essentially a cylindrical Poker bowl speared through by a continuous shank-and-stem arrangement, this piece acts a fully functioning Cavalier, meaning the fore of the shank, at the front of the bowl, boasts a cap that unscrews and drains excess moisture from the airway. Additionally, this piece is a sturdy Sitter, the bowl's flat heel enabling the composition to rest on stably, without a pipe stand. Fashioned from Morta, a petrified bog oak that's prized for its mesmerizing complexion and resistance to heat, the stummel wears a crisp sandblast that highlights a wealth of attractive grain across the bowl and shank alike.
