Askwith: Sandblasted Billiard with Silver Tobacco Pipe

Originally a silversmith, Chris Askwith didn't start crafting pipes until 2007. The English artisan often pays homage to Anglo-French silhouettes and is known for crafting his pipes with alternative materials and unique color palettes. Those traits are seen here in this Billiard, which marries a timeless profile with a modern twist in the form of a colorful stem. More Danish than English in design, the bowl of this pipe rises from a full-bodied heel and tapers toward a flat rim, diverging from the well-known cylindrical shape seen in other Billiards. Subtle cheeking around the transition gives way to a rounded shank that extends toward an accent of silver wrapping the junction. The metallic band connects the sandblasted briar to a vibrant yellow stem of polyester, the bright hues creating a contemporary aesthetic.
