Kurt Balleby: Sandblasted Bent Brandy
Product Number: 002-294-0078
Soft, supple, and sweeping from end to end, this bent Brandy from Kurt Balleby really demonstrates the carver's penchant for Danish neoclassical shaping. The bowl carries the majority of the compsoition's visual weight, with a broad, low-set waistline and a soft, gentle taper up to the rim, disguising its capacious chamber within stout insulating walls. That said, he's balanced out that visual weight nicely, lending the transition a strong sweeping gesture, which he's continued through the sharp lines of the D-shaped shank. While Kurt's smooths are consistently beautiful, Balleby can simply nail a sandblasted finish when the fancy strikes, as you can see here in the tight-knit waves of undulating ring grain climbing the bowl.
