Kurt Balleby: Smooth Bent Bulldog Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-294-0128
Danish artisan Kurt Balleby has been crafting pipes since 1983, honing his craft over a career that spans more than four decades. He spent years apprenticing under renowned pipe makers like Kai Nielsen and Preben Holm, learning not only how to master his craft, but also honing a meticulous eye for quality and shaping. Today, each of his pipes goes through a meticulous quality control process, a testament to the precision and care he invests in his work. Balleby is known for his fluid shaping style, with many of his creations featuring dynamic curves and smooth, softened lines that contrast beautifully with sharp, paneled facets. Each of his pipes is further distinguished by his signature 14K gold stem logo, adding a unique touch to every piece. This bent Bulldog is a signature Balleby rendition and presents a softer and more graceful profile compared to classic English depictions of the shape. The typically sharp, geometric edges of the diamond shank are gently rounded, offering a more fluid appearance. The bowl forgoes the traditional, muscular stature of a Bulldog, replacing it with walls that easily transition from the lifted heel to a domed rim, only marked by twin beadlines along its waist. These subtle changes result in a design that stays true to its Bulldog roots, but displays a soft, Danish-like disposition. As expected from a Balleby pipe, the grain is exceptional, with tight flame grain elegantly framing the smooth rim, complemented by a stunning display of birdseye on the underside of the shank.
