Barling: Marylebone The Very Finest (1815) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe

Benjamin Barling was an English silversmith known for his intricately detailed work in ornamenting meerschaum pipes. Realizing the potential of this venture, he founded B. Barling and Sons in 1812, outfitting pipe smokers with fine fitments for nearly a century until, in 1906, the family began production on their own line of briar pipes. These pipes quickly gained a reputation for not only their style, but for offering superior smoking qualities and high-end craftsmanship. In 2020, the historically English marque was revitalized by Kopp Pipes, continuing the saga of Barling and offering fine smokers in the traditional English style.

The Marylebone line's name is a direct reference to a key point in Barling's history, calling back to the London district where Benjamin Barling founded his original workshop in 1812. This series comprises a number of different finishes, including sandblasted, and several variations of smooth in three different shades. Each of these pipes is cleanly presented with no added ornamentation or filigree, save for the sterling silver lion head logo which has been inlaid into the base of the acrylic stem, a fitment which celebrates the revival of the more-than-200-year-old marque. This particular pipe is the "1815" Dublin, and it's dressed here in their smooth The Very Finest finish, a warm, honeyed stain that showcases handsome grain.
