Becker: Sandblasted Bent Billiard (Two Clubs)
Product Number: 002-007-0784
This bent Billiard is a slightly different shape from Federico Becker compared to his oft-seen Dublin and Cherrywood designs. That said, it embodies the Italian artisan's recognizable shaping aesthetic, separating it from traditional bent Billiard renditions. Like many of his pipes, this piece is full of implied momentum — the profile's lines shooting forward in a sleek, streamlined, almost aerodynamic fashion. The stem is notably elongated and gracefully continues its downward arc through the shank and heel, not dissimilar to the Hawkbill shape's gesture in that its profile is marked by a steady arching through the shank and stem, rather than the bent Billiard's typical S-curve. The slightly pointed heel is a signature feature of Becker's work, fitting in well with the angular nature of the transition and the form's check mark-like silhouette. It's dressed in a dark, reserved sandblast, and the warm hues of the cumberland stem are a beautiful complement.-Truett Smith
