Becker: Sandblasted Dublin (Four Clubs) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-007-0872

The familial pipe-making tradition of the Beckers is alive and well, and represented perfectly by this trim straight Dublin rendition. Federico Becker is a third-generation artisan who carries on the tradition of his father Paulo and his grandfather Fritz, making fine Italian pipes with a special flair. Often we see sharp, angular renditions with slender shanks from Federico, and this sleek Dublin is a great example, the neatly flaring bowl tapering to a pointed heel, with a demure shank and stem stretching out to nearly six inches in length out back. Comparatively, the bowl is quite large, with over two inches in height and a capacious chamber held within its thick walls.

A crisp sandblast dresses the stummel handsomely, accentuating a radiant array of growth rings that rise from the heel to climb the bowl in elegant uniformity, the briar left unstained for a vibrant presentation that will patina as this piece is smoked. The grain orientation here does not happen by coincidence, and credit must be given to Federico for reading the briar perfectly and shaping the pipe accordingly. The virgin briar is contrasted excellently by the svelte, black, tapered vulcanite stem, hand cut for prime smoking comfort, while a slim accent of glossy briar at the shank end offers a touch of textural contrast.
