Benni Jorgensen: Smooth Asymmetric Bent Apple

Product Number: 002-331-0352

Smooth and endowed with grain beautiful enough to make an Inquisition torturer weep tears of sentimentality, this Apple from Benni Jørgensen flows from lip button to far rim in soft curvature. Jørgensen excels at traditional forms elevated by Freehand elements, and this pipe is an excellent example. The title says it's asymmetrical, and that may not be evident from profile photos, but when viewed from above or below, the shank is easily recognized as bending to the right, flowing smoothly along the underside, and reaching the far flank in a curved and rounded, additionally asymmetric ridgeline.

The transition is tight, with the curves of the bowl extending beyond and defining its Apple shape, while the shank curves upward to the mouthpiece. A crisp, extending ridgeline rides the right side of the shank and joins the bowl in an additional ridgeline extending from the flank. The grain is remarkable, its tendrils of tight capillaries curving up the sides of the bowl to reach the rim, which is dramatically chamfered. A single expansion ring at the base of the stem introduces a taper that curves to the lip button. Well balanced and endlessly intriguing to look at and to feel in hand, this is a pipe to keep one interested for its entire life.
