Benni Jorgensen: Sandblasted Bent Egg Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-331-0363

Benni Jørgensen, like so many Danish pipe makers, got his start working for the W.Ø. Larsen workshop before heading out on his own and crafting pipes under his own name. With more than 40 years of experience, he has certainly made a name for himself as a first-tier artisan, carving pieces often imbued with organic, gestural shaping. This bent Egg cements that organic aesthetic, with the plump, slightly forward-ebbing bowl hewing completely to an egg's actual shape. It doesn't look like a Brandy or an Acorn or any hybrid of two or more shapes. Benni has nailed this one: It is indeed an Egg, without reservation, a testament to his considerable skill and attention to detail.

While the soft, Danish-style bowl speaks to suppleness and a voluptuous fit in hand, the undercurve and compressed design of the shank embrace a more structural disposition with precise line work. A compact piece measuring less than five inches in total length, this muscular pipe is dressed in a dark, ruby-tinged sandblast, showing off stunning ring grain on all flanks and is topped by a complementing, hand-cut and gently downturned vulcanite stem. A fine-looking, handsome piece, it's pipes of this sort that point to Benni's keen eye for shaping according to the grain and why his work is so highly collectable.
