Caminetto: Rusticated Reverse Calabash Calabash (05) (AT) Tobacco Pipe

While the classic gourd Calabash (as in one made from a gourd, rather than just being gourd shaped) has its merits, tobacco chamber capacity is not one of them. Briar renditions like this one by Caminetto may typically do without the traditional hollow, internal chamber and removable cap, but as in this case they do tend to really make up for it with tobacco chamber depth. This particular offering from the Italian workshop poses the same traditionally sinuous S-curve and overhanging rim, with the smooth, domed rim contrasting the rustication that covers the rest of the stummel. This rendition also benefits from reverse Calabash engineering, being imbued with a vast condensation chamber in the shank — both serving to offer a cool, dry smoke as well as contributing to the form's robust proportions.
