Caminetto: Smooth Cavalier with Silver (03) (AT) Tobacco Pipe

The Caminetto workshop was founded by Luigi Radice and Guiseppe Ascorti in the late 1960s, the pair establishing the brand after a lengthy tenure with Castello. Caminetto pipes quickly became a success, their unique design language cementing them as one of Italy's most respected makers. They've become especially renowned for their craggy rustications, with many of their pipes showcasing highly textural carving across their stummels. The Cavalier is a shape of German descent, having originated in the old Tyrol region that's now Austria, Italy, and Germany. These pipes feature a unique style of shaping which is seldom seen in modern pipe making, with a combination of features that set this style of pipe apart from all others. Caminetto has done a great job rendering the shape here, with a tightly-knit build that's ideal for jaw-hanging, its saddle stem possessed of a deep bend as it reaches out of the shank. Said shank is lengthy and is situated nearly vertically in the composition, the transition set near the middle of its length pairing to an Egg-like bowl that's comfortably curved for a lovely feel in hand. The shank extends below the heel of the bowl and meets a black acrylic foot at a broad band of silver, the foot allowing this pipe to stand sturdily while slanting rearward. The foot is actually a functional moisture cap that can be easily removed to drain moisture as it collects from the bowl, the airway being drilled from the draft channel and through lower shank to allow any liquids to run out and away from the chamber. Dressed in a warm chestnut stain, the stummel here showcases handsome grain throughout, with cross grain through the flanks of the bowl.
