Caminetto: Event 2013 Smooth Bent Dublin (AT) Tobacco Pipe

The Caminetto workshop was founded by Luigi Radice and Giuseppe Ascorti in the late 1960s, the pair establishing the brand after a lengthy tenure with Castello. Caminetto pipes quickly became a success, their unique design language cementing them as one of Italy's most respected makers. They've become especially renowned for their craggy rustications, with many of their pipes showcasing highly textural carving across their stummels. Caminetto's Event line is a once-yearly limited-release series that comprises a single shape taken from the Italian workshop's historical portfolio. These vintage profiles are resurrected with a touch of modernization and are presented in a variety of finishes, with this 2013 edition being an angular bent Dublin. The shank and stem here are striking, with a wide transition giving way to a lifting shank that tapers toward a junction marked with a broad band of brass reading "EVENT" on the left side and "2013-1968" on the right, marking the junction to a sleek stretch of tapering black acrylic. The angle of the shank and stem lends this pipe a rakish, jaunty look and immediately draws the eye toward the bowl, with a subtle ridge at the underside of the transition further enhancing the presence of this angularity. Up front, the bowl takes on a Cauldron-like look, its rounded heel giving way to walls that pinch at the waist and flare out to a broad waistline, canting forward to infuse this piece with some dynamism. Dressed in a deep, rich stain, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout, while the brassy accent band offers ample contrast to appreciate.
